The Ministry of Counter Narcotics of Afghanistan (MCN) says Iran does not cooperate in fight against drugs. Hanif Danishyar, a spokesman to the ministry, said on Saturday that neighboring countries, especially Iran, are not seriously fighting against drug trafficking, claiming that they are violating existing regulations in this regard. According to him, Iran is the main route of drug trade to the world and at least 30 percent of Afghanistan’s opium is being trafficked through the country.
This comes as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at a conference on terrorism and drugs last week warned that if tough US sanctions weaken Tehran’s ability to counter terrorism and drug, the world will face a deluge of drugs and terrorism.
“I warn those who impose sanctions that if Iran’s ability to fight drugs and terrorism is affected … you will not be safe from a deluge of drugs, asylum seekers, bombs and terrorism,” Rouhani said.
