Iranians started voting on Friday morning with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei calling for a high turnout in the country’s presidential election.
The election is likely to be won by a judge loyal to the religious establishment.
“Each vote counts … come and vote and choose your president … this is important for the future of your country,” Khamenei said after casting his vote in the capital Tehran as quoted in a report by Reuters.
Iran has at least 59 million eligible voters. However, Iran’s deputy minister of interior has estimated a turnout of just 47%.
