Jabbar Ali Zakeri, the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran, announced the impending launch of a passenger train service between Iran and Afghanistan.

Zakeri revealed that the railway line from Roznak to Herat is currently under construction, with plans to activate the passenger train service upon its completion.

Additionally, Zakeri emphasized the importance of the Khaf-Herat railway corridor, stating that it will soon enable European cargo transit through Iran.

According to reports from Baxter News Agency, multiple trains currently transit from various countries, including Turkey and India, reaching Iran’s Bandar Abbas before proceeding to Afghanistan by rail. Zakeri noted that this development is pivotal for Afghanistan’s economy, as it seeks to diversify its trade routes and reduce reliance on any single market.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has also announced the commencement of the second phase of the fourth section of the Khaf-Herat railway, which spans 47 kilometers and is being constructed at a cost of $53 million.
