The Ministry of Interior has expressed satisfaction with the installation of nearly 90,000 security cameras in the capital, which they say has helped prevent certain incidents in Kabul.

Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, told TOLOnews that the installation of security cameras is also underway in other provinces and this process will continue.

The spokesperson added: “Approximately 90,000 security cameras have been installed in the capital, mainly in crowded and important areas, which are being monitored.”

Qani stated that following the installation of the security cameras, they have been able to thwart several planned anti-security activities and criminal acts.

Zalmai Afghan Yar, a military affairs expert, commented on the installation of security cameras, saying: “There is no doubt that security cameras are effective in ensuring the safety of citizens, but only if we can connect them to central servers and provide 24-hour electricity.”

Kamran Aman, another military affairs expert, said: “Cameras are a great help to security forces and also to the public. The fear of these cameras has reduced theft.”

Meanwhile, some residents of the capital are urging security forces to not only rely on security cameras but also to continue their efforts to improve security.

Mohammad Abid, a Kabul resident, said: “Security cameras assist the security forces, but more efforts are still necessary, and they must remain diligent.”

Although it has been nearly a year since the installation of security cameras in the capital, some citizens in Kabul continue to criticize the occurrence of criminal activities and are calling on the Islamic Emirate to take serious actions in this regard.
