Suhail Shaheen, head of the IEA Urges Improved Diplomatic Ties with the West’s political office in Qatar, called on the United States and European countries to reopen their embassies in Kabul.
Speaking to TOLOnews, Shaheen said that the Qatar office is pursuing the issue of reopening embassies of European countries and the US. He emphasized that Afghanistan’s interim government seeks to establish positive relations with all countries based on mutual interests.
“This matter has also been communicated to ambassadors of various countries through the political office in Qatar. Therefore, under this principle, the United States can also resume normal diplomatic relations through its embassy in Kabul,” Shaheen said.
European countries and the US have consistently tied normalization of relations with Afghanistan’s interim government to improvements in human rights, counterterrorism efforts, combating drug trafficking, fulfillment of international commitments, and the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
In contrast, the Islamic Emirate’s key demands include lifting sanctions on the interim government, removing officials’ names from international blacklists, and non-interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
