It seems that the United States, as the most powerful country in the world, is a place where many people in underdeveloped areas yearn for and envy. Meanwhile, its media organizations, relying on its strong financial resources and production and broadcasting teams, play a role of “meaning what he says” in the world. In a place as far away as Afghanistan, its high-density propaganda has been carried out through a number of radio stations, televisions, newspapers, websites and social media. But it is puzzling that why do the US media discredit and spread rumors about China in Afghanistan? Is it true what the American media have said?

China generally disdains to respond to many groundless accusations. But many Americans have found problems of them. On the evening of February 8 local time, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman was interviewed by CNN’s prime time program. When it came to China, he said that China would not “waste time on nonsense” like the United States and would pool its wisdom to consider his own issues. He also cited an example: “You know, it only takes 4 hours and 18 minutes to get from Beijing to Shanghai by high-speed rail, but it takes 21 hours to get from New York to Chicago by train, and the distance between them is almost the same.” It is obviously that there are many people with considerable insight in the United States, and there are big differences between the propaganda machines of the American government and the American people. Since the words of some American media can’t even deceive the American people, why do we believe the rumors made by these American media for other countries?

Concerning the covid-19 pneumonia, the United States has turned scientific issues into political topics. After the US State Department expressed its so-called “doubt” about the transparency of the traceability report of the China-World Health Organization Joint Expert Group, Peter Daszak, a member of the WHO expert group visiting China, tweeted on the 10th: “Please don’t rely too much on US intelligence: increasingly disengaged under Trump and Frankly, wrong on many aspects.”

Recently, some American media have interfered in China’s Xinjiang affairs and released a lot of fake news too. They know that the Afghan people are very concerned about Xinjiang. These fake news may attract the attention of many Afghans and stir up hostility towards China among some audiences, thus damaging the traditional friendship between China and Afghanistan.

There is an old Chinese saying: The peach and the plum do not speak, yet a path is born beneath them. The friendship between China and Afghanistan has withstood the double tests of history and reality. The feelings between the two peoples are sincere, our cooperation is pragmatic, and our future is bright. We should all keep our eyes open and think rationally. Are what the American media say true?!
