The head of the Islamic Emirate’s Qatar-based Political Office, Suhail Shaheen, said that in his meeting with the Robert Chatterton Dickson, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the UK Mission to Afghanistan, humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan was emphasized and discussions were also held on economic and political issues.
The Islamic Emirate is a “reality and the international community also knows it, thus engagement is important for both sides,” Shaheen said. “We have discussed the economic situation of Afghanistan in this meeting. The UK Chargé d’Affaires pledged to continue humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and efforts will be made for positive relations in the future,” Shaheen said.
Chatterton Dickson said on Twitter late Sunday that he met with Shaheen in Doha.
“Doha remains an important hub for engagement with Afghanistan,” he said.
Chatterton Dickson visited Afghanistan last week and held meetings with senior officials of the Islamic Emirate.
The political analysts said that the Islamic Emirate should accept the legitimate wishes of the international community.
“The interim government needs to accept some of the legitimate wishes of the international community, which is also emphasized by the Afghans—and it needs to take practical steps to attract international aid to Afghanistan,” said Najibullah Shamal, a political analyst.
“The path for the engagement of Afghanistan and world is opened. The world should also change its double strategy towards Afghanistan,” said Hatif Mukhtar, a political analyst.
“The government should be formed based on the definition it is given in the national constitution so it can have internal legitimacy and international legitimacy,” said Fazal Hadi Wazin, a university lecturer.
Earlier, Chatterton Dickson said on Twitter that his visit to Afghanistan demonstrated the UK’s commitment to supporting a positive future for all Afghans, including women and girls.
