Herat earthquake victims get keys to new homes

Herat provincial officials said Monday a new housing development for earthquake victims in Parwana village in Anjil district has been completed.

According to officials, 80 new houses have been built with the financial assistance of the HHRD foundation.

The houses were handed over to quake victims on Monday.

In October last year, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Herat province resulting in over 1,400 deaths and the destruction of thousands of homes.

On Monday, Hayatullah Mahajer Farahi, acting governor of Herat province, handed over keys to the houses to the new occupants.

He thanked all agencies and organizations involved in assisting the quake victims. He also appealed to other organizations to come forward to help quake victims still in need.

So far 4,000 houses have been built for quake victims across a number of districts in Herat.
