Helmand voter says Taliban removed his finger

A resident of the Greshk district in southern Helmand province on Wednesday accused Taliban militants of cutting off his index finger for voting in the recent Wolesi Jirga polls.

Hazfizullah, who is being treated at the Bost hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was on his way from Greshk district to Kandahar province when Taliban militants took him hostage.

He said he was held captive for two days and was released on the third day when Taliban cut his finger off.

Hafizullah, a blacksmith, is father of four children and meets his family economic needs through his shop.

The victim said the Taliban also captured another person travelling with in a passenger car, but released him soon because he had not voted in the Oct 20 parliamentary elections.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the incident.
