Health officials report 95% drop in measles cases in Badakhshan

Badakhshan Public Health Directorate has announced a 95 percent reduction in measles cases among children in the province.

The directorate officials said that 546 positive measles cases have been recorded in this province over the past year.

“Fortunately, this year there have been very few cases of measles, which are clinically limited to a few cases,” said Mahfooz Sultani, head of infectious disease control in Badakhshan.

This figure was more than 8,700 cases in 2022, said health officials.

“In 2022, there were many cases of measles in Badakhshan, we had approximately 8,700 and 87 people, and unfortunately we also had 21 deaths,” said Mohammad Akbari, head of Children’s Department of Badakhshan Provincial Hospital.

Meanwhile, doctors at Badakhshan provincial hospital also said that in recent months, the number of children with measles has decreased significantly.

Public health officials in Badakhshan stated the decline in the number of measles cases comes after vaccine and awareness campaigns were carried out in this province.
