The Ministry of Finance (MoF) says it has set up an online application for collecting taxes in a more efficient manner.
Amina Ahmadi, head of Afghanistan Revenue Department, said in an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News her department had set up the application called E-Filling to facilitate taxpayers.
She said: “Through this application, taxpayers fill out forms (statements) and send it to them. This enables the department to collect taxes on time and in an organized way.”
Ahmadi added: “In the form issued by revenue offices, taxpayers calculate their net profit and pay taxes accordingly.”
The application helps taxpayers enter their sale figures into the system from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. The system works out tax and fine levels of applicants.
“The application, activated on July 9, has registered 50 percent of big taxpayers, who sent us their statements only,” she continued.
According to Ahmadi, banks, telecommunication firms, state-owned enterprises, insurance and security companies are among the top taxpayers.
The director said they arranged two training workshops every week to help taxpayers understand the benefits of using the online system.
So far, they had organized 48 workshops and around 1,000 people attended the events, she informed.
The Revenue Department information shows 189 billion Afghanis were collected in revenue last year. So far 146 billion Afghanis have been collected this year.
