President Ashraf Ghani met Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie, commander of the US Central Command, on Saturday evening at the Presidential Palace here.
Ghani’s office on Sunday said First Vice-President Amrullah Sahel, National Security Advisor (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib and Minister of Defense Asadullah Khalid were also present at the meeting.
The two sides discussed the start of the peace negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban, strengthening of Afghan defense and security forces, as well as the situation in Afghanistan and the region.
General McKenzie said the objective behind his visit to Afghanistan on the and historic day was to once again reiterate America’s support for the Afghan government, people and security forces.
All decisions would be made in consultation with the government of Afghanistan, the visiting US general promised.
While welcoming the CENTCOM chief, Ghani thanked the United States for its principled stance on supporting an independent, united and democratic Afghanistan.
