The Presidential Palace on Sunday announced postponing nomination of new Cabinet members for five days as suggested by political leaders to pave the way for ending the political deadlock.

To resolve the political deadlock, senior figures on Sunday asked President Ashraf Ghani to temporarily halt high-level appointments.

Ex-president Hamid Karzai, religious scholar Abdul Rab RasoulSayyaf, former speaker Yunus Qanuni and Karim Khalili issued the call in a joint statement.

Wahid Omar, a senior advisor to President Ghani in public and strategic affairs, wrote on his twitter account that President Ghani made the decision to provide an opportunity for political talks.

Omar said President Ghani delayed the appointment of new Cabinet members for five days to provide further chances for political negotiations.

Ghani recently made a series of appointments to the MoF, the Ministry of Interior and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).
