Geneva  Conference: Financial Assistance & Political Support for Afghanistan’s Next 4 Years

The 2020 Afghanistan Conference entitled “Peace, Prosperity and Self-Sufficiency” for financial assistance and political support to Afghanistan for the next four years will be held today in Geneva, Switzerland.
The President’s spokesman, Sediq Sediqi tweeted yesterday that the Geneva Conference on Afghanistan will be held virtually for two days, starting today (Monday).

According to Sediqi, representatives of more than 100 countries and the international organizations will gather at this conference.

The conference which will be hosted by Afghanistan, Finland and the United Nations, will open at 13:30 p.m. (Kabul time).

In the meantime, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that the Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar left for Switzerland on Saturday evening to attend the conference as the head of the Afghan government delegation.

The Foreign Ministry added that Atmar was accompanied by Finance Minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, Ataullah Nasib, Head of the Investment Facilitation Unit, Abdul Habib Zadran, Deputy Minister of Finance, and a number of heads and advisers to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance.

The Minister of Finance, on behalf of Afghanistan, is chairing the Joint Hosting.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement that Minister of Finance Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, on behalf of Afghanistan, will co-chair the conference.

The Ministry of Finance added that the conference will review the mutual commitments of Afghanistan and the international community in the framework of mutual accountability, countries and donors will announce their commitments to continue financial assistance and political support to Afghanistan for the next four years.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the conference will be co-hosted by the Government of Afghanistan, Finland and the United Nations, in which the Government of Afghanistan will present the second document of the Afghan National Framework for Peace and Development, which reflects the vision of achieving peace, prosperity and self-sufficiency.
