Farah Officials Aim to Educate Deaf Students Through 12th Grade

Local officials in Farah say they are working to provide education for deaf students in the province up to the 12th grade. Currently, more than 30 deaf children in the city of Farah are being taught in sign language, and according to the officials, they have demonstrated remarkable talent.

Abdul Ghafoor, a teacher, said: “The only issue these students have is that they cannot hear. In other aspects, their abilities are like regular students, and their learning speed is even faster. We are making every effort, with the limited resources we have, to teach them through sign language and ensure they reach the 12th grade.”

Reza Ahmad, a 15-year-old student at the Deaf Education Center in Farah, has been unable to hear or speak since birth. He harbors many dreams, and becoming a teacher is among his greatest aspirations.

Reza Ahmad said: “I dream of becoming a good teacher in the future. I ask the government to provide us with more resources.”

Sayed Yousuf Sadat, head of technical and vocational education in Farah, told TOLOnews: “Currently, we have students up to the 3rd grade, with a total of about 32 students. Each class has 10 or 11 students, and their teachers hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees and teach them using sign language. The lessons are being conducted regularly, and there are no issues.”

Although there is no exact data on the number of deaf children in Farah province, it is said that there are hundreds of deaf children in the province who still do not have access to education.
