An explosion occurred at around 6:30pm on Wednesday near a security camp in the east of Kabul, police confirmed.
Bismillah Taban, head of Kabul’s Police District 9, told TOLOnews that the explosion was a car bomb and that it targeted a military installation called G4S security camp, located in Pul-e-Charkhi road.
Shortly after the incident, some eyewitnesses and residents of the area said gunfire was also heard from the attack scene. They said a number of residential houses were damaged in the explosion.
However, Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid, said gunfire was not heard in the area and that security forces were on their way to the attack scene.
Eyewitnesses said that eight wounded were taken to Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital following the explosion.
The Ministry of Public Health has not confirmed the figures.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
