The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) says that the European Union has contributed three million euros, ($3.2 million) to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.
OCHA said this amount of aid will enable aid agencies to reach millions of people across the country in need of assistance and protection.
The European Union has already provided several aid packages for Afghanistan during the course of the year.
The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is still serious and more than half of the country’s population needs help.
According to OCHA, in the coming year, $3 billion dollars will be needed for aid in Afghanistan.
The office had requested $4.6 billion for Afghanistan in 2023, but this amount of funding was not provided, and according to OCHA, as a result of the funding gap, 10 million people in Afghanistan lost access to food aid from May to November.
