The Ministry of Energy and Water said it has sent a plan to the leadership of the Islamic Emirate for confirmation for work on domestic energy projects.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the acting Minister of Energy and Water Abdul Latif Mansour called on the international community to support projects in Afghanistan.

“Maybe (the budget) of other ministries are also shifted but our budget had been shifted under the title of war to other organizations,” he said.

Mansour said that the Islamic Emirate has faced some challenges in paying the debt for electricity from abroad due to existing challenges in the banking system.

“When we came to power, the former government had not paid the debt to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Iran from which we import electricity, which was approximately $35 million,” he said.

Meanwhile, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) named the recent drought one of the main reasons for the shortage of power in the country.

“There is no change in the amount of power which we import from neighboring countries. The only problem is our reduced of shortage of domestic production and drought,” said Hekmatullah Maiwandi, a spokesman for the DABS.

Afghanistan imports more than 80 percent of power from neighboring countries.
