Voting will be held in presidential palace today to elect new election commissioners, President Ashraf Ghani’s spokesman said.
A total of 84 people have been nominated by political parties and civil society institutions for membership of the Independent Election Commission and Electoral Complaints Commission.
The president’s spokesman, Haroon Chakhansuri, said that the voting will be held in the presence of presidential candidates.
He said that each nominee running for membership of the commissions will be given three minutes to speak before the voting begins.
He said heads of secretariats of the commissions would be also elected today.
Afghan government dismissed top election officials after amending the Election Law earlier this month.
IEC is expected to have eight commissioners, while ECC is expected to have five.
Afghanistan’s presidential election is scheduled to be held on 20 July. A total of 18 candidates have registered to run in the upcoming vote.
