Egypt offers to help Afghanistan counter fundamentalism

Egyptian Ambassador to Afghanistan Hani Salah has reaffirmed his country’s assistance to Afghanistan in areas of higher education, Islamic studies and prevention of fundamentalism, a statement from the National Security Council (NSC) said on Wednesday.

The envoy made the commitment during a meeting with National Security Advisor (NSA) Mohammad Hanif Atmar here, the statement said.

The two sides have discussed the ongoing state of extremism and fundamentalism and stressed over the halt of unfortunate incidents.

Atmar hailed the role of Egyptian government and people in bring down the level of fundamentalism and appreciated their efforts and commitment.

The NSA also thanked the leadership of Egyptian government for providing scholarship for Afghan students.

The envoy reiterated commitment that his country was ready to support Afghanistan in higher education, Islamic education and counter-terrorism efforts.

Salah offered special assistance to Afghan-led, owned peace process and reconciliation efforts.
