Former vice-president Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar have held talks on issues of bilateral importance.
Friday’s meeting in New Delhi largely focussed on various aspects of the latest initiative to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, a media report said.
Dostum’s trip to India comes days after the Afghan government and the Taliban launched direct peace talks on ending 19 years of war in the country.
The Indian foreign minister tweeted after the meeting: “India remains fully committed to an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled peace process.”
At a separate meeting, Dostum and Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla conferred on the constitutional order in Afghanistan.
The protection of rights of all sections of Afghan society came up for discussion, said Anurag Srivastava, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs.
Having invested $2 billion in aid and reconstruction activities in Afghanistan, India supports peace and stability in the country.
