Deputy intelligence chief for Baghlan gunned down

The deputy head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) for northern Baghlan province was killed and his bodyguard injured in a Taliban attack on Sunday, a well-placed source said.

Ghafoor Khan was killed in the Taliban ambush in the limits of Doshi district on Sunday morning, the source revealed. Khan’s bodyguard, injured in the attack, was evacuated to hospital.

A Provincial Council member, who wished to go unnamed, said Ghafoor Khan was killed in Kelagi locality at around 10:00 am.

Civil Hospital Director Mohammad Anwar Wardak said he was unable provide detail but one body and two injured people had been brought to hospital from the site.

He added the five injured, members of the security forces, had been evacuated to hospital from Bala Dori area on Saturday night.

A few days back, the Taliban stormed the police headquarters in Pul-i-Khumri, killing 18 security personnel.
