Governor of De Afghanistan Bank, the central bank of the country, Khalil Sediq has stepped down from his position, the informed sources confirmed.
A source close to ARG President Palace, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that DAB Governor’s resignation has been approved by President Ashraf Ghani.
Speaking to Khaama Press News Agency, Mr. Sediq confirmed that he has stepped down as the Governor of DBA.
Mr. Sediq further added that he has bowed out due to the ailment he is suffering from.
Mr. Sediq steps down from his position hours after reports emerged regarding the smuggling of up to $5 billion from Afghanistan to Iran.
Reports regarding the smuggling of billions of US Dollars to Iran emerge amid a steep reduction of the Afghani currency’s value against US Dollars.
On Monday, one US dollar was exchanged with 80,55 Afghanis in Kabul’s main exchange market, Sarai Shahzada.
