On September 16th, the “Group of 77 and China” summit officially concluded with the adopting of “Havana Declaration”. This declaration is of great significance in the current international situation, as it focuses on the difficulties and challenges faced by developing countries. It emphasizes the importance of international cooperation with mutual benefit, opposes unilateral sanctions on developing countries, opposes unfair practices against developing countries, including technological monopolies and reveals the trend of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Under the current international situation, developing countries still face many difficulties and challenges, especially in some cases where some countries persist in sticking to the outdated ideas, continuing the Cold War mentality, resorting to unilateral sanctions, decoupling and chain-breaking, seriously damaging the legitimate development rights and space of developing countries. They oppose the times and reverse history. But multilateralism will definitely defeat unilateralism, and win-win cooperation will definitely outweigh the suppression of sanctions. Because the voice and pursuit of peaceful development among the people of the world, including the vast number of developing countries, cannot be ignored or reversed.
Under the current international situation, the power of developing countries is gradually strengthening, and their position in the global governance landscape is becoming increasingly important. China has always adhered to its original aspiration of independence, unity and self-improvement. It has always adhered to the global governance concept of joint consultation, construction, and sharing. China has always believed in expanding the voice and representation of developing countries. China is the largest developing country in the world today, sharing weal and woe with the vast number of developing countries, and continuously contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to world peace and development. The ” Belt and Road” and other public goods proposed by China are taking root and bearing fruit in more and more countries and regions. Many countries have tasted the benefits of win-win cooperation.
Under the current international situation, digital technology will greatly promote developing countries to receive more and greater development dividends. All countries, especially developing countries, should equally enjoy the dividends of digital technology development and should not fall behind in the development path of new technologies and industries. International cooperation in the field of digital technology will greatly improve the infrastructure construction of developing countries, promote the inclusiveness of financial services, promote the development of education and technique, promote agricultural modernization, and even the service level of the health industry. Digital technology will promote economic growth, improve people’s quality of life, and enhance social service level in developing countries. The development dividend of digital technology should not be monopolized by a very few countries.
As the largest developing country, China will work together with other countries to safeguard the interests of developing countries, promote fairness and justice, safeguard world peace and tranquility, and promote the well-being of people around the world on international multilateral cooperation platforms, including the Group of 77.
The Group of 77 was established in 1964 as an intergovernmental international organization composed of developing countries, aiming to strengthen solidarity and cooperation to accelerate the economic and social development process of developing countries. Currently, it has more than 130 member countries. China is not a member of the Group of 77, but has always supported the organization’s just claims and reasonable demands. Since the 1990s, the relationship between China and the Group of 77 has developed significantly on its original basis, and coordination and cooperation have been carried out through the mechanism of “Group of 77 and China”.
