China to provide food items for Afghan flood affectees

China will provide food items worth over 550 million afghanis to Afghanistan for floods affected families under an agreement signed here on Sunday.

The memorandum of understanding was signed between Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu and State Minister of Natural Disaster Management Ghulam Bahauddin Jilani.

At the MoU signing ceremony, Jilani said the aid would include 1284 tons of wheat and 3982 tons of Chinese rice at a total cost of 550 million afghanis.

He said the assistance would be distributed transparently once arrived in the country.

Wang Yu said his country has been assisting floods-affected people in the war-hit country since 2018.

Yu said his country had provided medical equipment worth more than $6 million in the first months of Covid-19 pandemic in Afghanistan.

China always stood by Afghanistan to safeguard peace and development and build a community with a shared future for mankind, he added.
