The Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza is set to reopen today after being closed for 15 months due to the ongoing conflict.

This reopening coincides with the exchange of three Israeli prisoners for 90 Palestinian detainees, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing ceasefire agreement.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that, as part of the ceasefire terms, a group of injured and sick Palestinians will be transferred abroad for medical treatment. Initially, the movement through the Rafah crossing will be restricted, with plans for a full reopening at the conclusion of the phased ceasefire agreement.

During the first phase, in addition to the transfer of wounded Palestinians, 100 students and some dual nationals will be permitted to exit Gaza.

The first phase includes not only the prisoner exchange but also a commitment from Israeli forces to withdraw from densely populated areas in Gaza, allowing displaced individuals to return home. Additionally, an agreement has been reached to facilitate the entry of 600 humanitarian aid trucks into the Gaza Strip daily.

The second phase of the ceasefire is anticipated to establish lasting peace, continue the prisoner exchanges, and ensure the complete withdrawal of Israeli military forces from the territory. This phase aims to halt the conflict permanently.

The third phase, expected to unfold over 42 days, will include the exchange of deceased individuals, the initiation of a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza, and the permanent opening of all crossings to facilitate the free movement of people and goods.

The reconstruction effort will receive financial backing from Egypt, Qatar, and the United Nations, focusing on rebuilding homes, public facilities, and infrastructure while providing compensation to those affected by the conflict.
