This year marks the 10th anniversary of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposal of the concept of building “a community with a shared future for humanity”. Ten years ago, President Xi Jinping, with profound insights into the evolving global landscape, first presented the concept to the world during a speech at the Moscow Institute of International Relations in Russia. This initiative put forth China’s propositions, formulated China’s solutions, and demonstrated China’s commitment in response to changes in the world, era, and history.
Over the past ten years, the concept of “a community with a shared future for humanity” has continuously enriched and developed in practice. It has not only been included into resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly for six consecutive years, but also included into resolutions or declarations of other multilateral mechanisms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, gaining widespread recognition and support from the international community. Under the banner of the concept, the destinies and futures of every nation, every country, and every individual have become closely linked, sharing weal and woe. Today, the concept has gradually brought together the earth as a whole, and made the yearning for a better life of people of all countries, including Afghanistan, gradually become a reality.
Over the past ten years, President Xi Jinping has proposed a series of practical paths and action plans for building “a community with a shared future for humanity”. From the Belt and Road Initiative to Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, China has consistently advanced this concept, sharing the achievements of its modernization development with the world.
The Global Development Initiative is highly compatible with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and resonates, in particular, with the aspirations of developing countries for greater development. The Global Security Initiative upholds the principle of common security, emphasizes comprehensive approaches, pursues sustainable security through cooperative efforts, and makes a valuable contribution to addressing international security challenges. The Global Civilization Initiative calls on all countries to respect the diversity of civilizations in the world, which is conducive to facilitating exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations. These “Three Global Initiatives” are interconnected and complementary, jointly promoting and providing institutional support for the concept in the dimensions of development, security, and civilization.
Our world is undergoing change on a scale unseen in a century. Various problems old and new and complex issues are converging with and compounding each other, posing unprecedented challenges for human society. Instability, uncertainty, and unpredictability are now the norm. The concept has become the key to breaking through these challenges. On September 26, China released a white paper of “A Global Community of Shared Future: China’s Proposals and Actions“, providing a comprehensive introduction to the concept’s ideological essence and practical achievements while addressing the “questions of our time”.
It emphasizes that building a global community of shared future is both a salutary vision and a historical process that calls for generations of hard work. When all countries unite in pursuing the cause of common good, plan together, and act together day by day towards the right direction of building a global community of shared future, we can definitely create a better future for all of humanity.
China and Afghanistan have been friendly neighbors for thousands of years, and the destinies of the two countries have never been more closely linked than now. China is willing to work together with Afghanistan to jointly seek world development and prosperity, build world peace and security, promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning, share the achievements of human development, security, and civilization, and build a community with a shared future for the two countries, so as to continue the traditional friendship between China and Afghanistan and open a new chapter in friendly relations. China will also use its own development to provide new opportunities for Afghanistan, the region and the world, and make greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
