Iran confirmed on Friday evening that it launched ballistic missile strikes and over 100 drones targeting multiple sites in Israel. This response follows overnight Israeli airstrikes on Iranian soil, which killed several high-ranking military officials, including the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami. Iranian media reports that the airstrikes also claimed the lives of top nuclear scientists and other key figures. The unprecedented escalation marks one of the region’s most volatile flashpoints in years.

In anticipation of further attacks, Israel has already begun intercepting drones outside its borders. Evacuations were carried out in areas expected to be targeted, particularly as air raid sirens blared across several Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv. The country’s army confirmed the detection of a missile coming from Yemen, adding to the ongoing tensions. Authorities rushed citizens into bomb shelters to avoid potential missile strikes.

The escalation began when Israeli forces carried out a surprise series of airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear and military sites under ‘Operation Rising Lion.’ Israel cited intelligence suggesting that Iran’s nuclear program had nearly reached a “point of no return,” justifying the attacks. Several Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists lost their lives, including Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces. The airstrikes have deepened the crisis between the two nations.
