President Ashraf Ghani would take oath of office within the next five days, an official said on Sunday.
A commission has been established to make arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony, according to the official, who did not want to be named.
Last week, the Independent Election Commission unveiled the final results from the September 28, 2019, presidential polls after delays due to rigging claims.
The commission declared Ghani as the winner, saying he had been re-elected with 50.64% of votes for a second term in office.
Ghani’s main rival Abdullah, who finished second with 39.52% of votes, contested the result, declared victory and vowed to form a parallel and inclusive government.
The official confided to Pajhwok Afghan News the oath-taking ceremony would take place within days.
Meanwhile, another well-placed source confirmed that oath-taking would take place on Thursday.
A presidential decree, whose copy has been obtained by Pajhwok, ordered the creation of a commission to arrange the ceremony.
Matin Bek, director of the Independent Directorate of Local governance (IDLG), has been appointed has the head of the commission.
Parwan Provincial Council Chairman Ghulam Bahauddin Jilani, acting foreign minister, chief of army staff, deputy director of the National Security Council, acting head of the administrative affairs office, senior presidential advisors Wahid Omar and Shah Hussain Murtazavi are members of the commission.
Ministries of defense, interior, transportation, the National Security Council, Kabul municipality and other offices have been asked to cooperate with the commission.
Presidential aides have said nothing in this regard so far. But Syed Shah Saqeem, spokesman for IDLG said the commission led by Mateen Bek had started holding meetings.
Without giving details, Saqeem said the oath-taking ceremony would be held in the near future.
