Arab leaders have endorsed a $53 billion plan for the reconstruction of Gaza during an emergency summit held in Cairo, Egypt. The proposal comes as a direct response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to “take over Gaza” and relocate over two million Palestinians.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, stated at the conclusion of the hours-long meeting, “Egypt’s plan is now the Arab plan.” While not directly referencing the U.S. president’s proposals, he emphasized that “the Arab position rejects any form of displacement, whether voluntary or forced.”
Egypt has prepared a 91-page document detailing the reconstruction efforts, complete with images of thriving neighborhoods and grand government buildings. This stands in stark contrast to Trump’s so-called “Middle East Riviera” plan, which sparked global shockwaves upon its release.
What sets the new plan apart is its comprehensive approach, which goes beyond property development to address political issues and the rights of Palestinians.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation regime, which continues its expansionist policies in Palestinian territories, has opposed the Arab-backed plan and instead advocated for the implementation of Trump’s controversial and destructive proposal for Gaza.
The Arab leaders’ unified stance underscores their commitment to a sustainable and just solution for Gaza, prioritizing the rights and dignity of its inhabitants.
