Angry Kunduz protestors close governor’s house

Hundreds of residents of northern Kunduz province on Tuesday closed the gate of the governor’s house in protest against the kidnapping of a jeweler’s son.
Three days back, Wali Ahmad, son of a jeweler, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Kunduz city, the provincial capital.
Hundreds of people on Tuesday took to the streets and shut the governor’s house’s gate. Amanullah, one of the protestors, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Our protest would continue until the boy is released and kidnap incidents stopped in this city.”
He said the government should pay serious attention to security of Kunduz city and prevent kidnappings.
Governor’s spokesman, Niamatullah Taimuri, told Pajhwok that efforts were underway for freeing the boy from his captors.
Police detained a suspect in connection with the case and he was under investigation now, the official said.
“We are also in talks with the protestors to reopen the governor’s house gate,” Taimuri said.
At least 10 people were kidnapped in Kunduz city during the past six months and most of them released after the payment of ransom money.
