Airstrike leaves 13 civilians dead in Ghazni

Local officials Tuesday said an airstrike hit a Taliban logistics supplying vehicle in Andar district of southern Ghazni province, but local residents said 13 civilians were killed in the attack.

Mohibullah, a resident of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the airstrike targeted a Townace  model vehicle in Liwan locality of the district, killing 13 civilians onboard.

Meanwhile, Amanullah Kamrani, deputy chief of the provincial council, said the airstrike hit a fielder model vehicle in the area. He said when he contracted local people, they said the dead included no civilians.

Kamrani said he was told the vehicle was carrying logistics for the Taliban when came under attack.

He also said there were rumors that the vehicle hit a roadside bomb, killing all the passengers.

But Mohammad Arif Noori, the governor’s spokesman, said the airstrike targeted a Taliban fielder model vehicle, killing three of the rebels onboard. He rejected the killing of civilians in the incident.

On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the US forces airstrike targeted a civilian car and killed civilians.
