The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock intends to create standard cold storage and processing facilities to increase the agricultural capacity of the country.
Sadrazam Osmani, technical deputy of the ministry, on a trip to Parwan said that the Ministry of Agriculture has prepared a plan for the establishment of these cold storage plants to solve the challenges facing farmers.
“We have prepared a plan and sent it to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate, we hope that it will be approved in the future, and we will work on it,” said Sadrazam Osmani.
“We are faced with a lack of cold storage and markets, we have sent our requests to related organizations and the ministry, Insha Allah they accept our proposals,” said Mohammad Rahim Namani, head of the agriculture department in Parwan.
Meanwhile, some farmers said that the lack of cold storage is a serious challenge for them.
“When it is tomato season, we don’t have cold storage. Today, we sell 7 kilos of tomatoes for 30 afghani, but we could sell two kilos for 100 afghani,” said Hamidullah, a farmer.
Some plant owners of the agricultural sector in Parwan said that many of their factories stopped operating after the fall of the previous government and they need the support of the current government to reactivate these factories.
“Previously the production capacity of tomato sauce reached 100 tons in 24 hours, but this has stopped,” said Mohibullah Rahmani, head of an agriculture processing plant.
The harvest season of agricultural products has arrived in the country, but the lack of standard cold storage has become one of the most fundamental challenges for farmers and processing plant owners who cannot prolong the value of their produce.
