Former president Hamid Karzai on the occasion of International Women’s Day once again called on the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to reopen the doors of schools and universities for girls.

Karzai said in a statement that the future of Afghanistan depends on the solidarity and meaningful participation of both women and men in this land.

He stated that to achieve progress, evolution, and freedom from dependency, it is essential to pay serious attention to the education and job opportunities for women and to provide an environment for the growth and flourishing of the bright talents of girls in the country.

He said: “According to history, Afghan women have had a significant presence side by side with men in all developments and arenas, especially in the struggles for independence, and have established their role and position as responsible members of society.”
