Afghanistan, Turkmenistan agree to develop Torghundi port and railway

The Ministry of Public Works says that the Afghan delegation currently in Turkmenistan signed two agreements with their Turkmen counterparts to develop the Torghundi land port and a railway line from Torghundi to Snobar in Herat province.

In Turkmenistan as part of the delegation is Bakhtur Rahman Sharaf, the head of the Afghanistan Railway Authority, along with the deputy Minister of Public Works, who is leading the Afghan group.

The railway line meanwhile will stretch for 22 km to Snobar and will fall under the administration of Turkmenistan.

According to public works, these two projects will start soon.

Torghundi port, which is considered as a connecting point between Central Asia and South Asia, will provide improved facilities for traders once complete and will help speed up the clearance process of goods.
