Afghanistan-Russia Trade Forum Opens in Kazan

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Afghanistan, and Alexei Ovcharuk, his Russian counterpart, inaugurated the first Afghanistan-Russia trade forum on the sidelines of the 16th Kazan International Economic Forum today, Friday.

During the event, Deputy PM Mullah Baradar highlighted the political stability achieved since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, noting that economic activities have flourished and trade has expanded significantly. He emphasized the influx of both domestic and foreign investment across various sectors.

Deputy PM Mullah Baradar outlined the government’s commitment to enhancing trade by developing infrastructure projects, including the ambitious plan to construct a second Salang Tunnel. He expressed a desire for cooperation with Russia, leveraging its expertise in infrastructure development to facilitate trade and transit between Afghanistan and Central Asia.

In response, Deputy Prime Minister Ovcharuk affirmed Russia’s support for a stable and prosperous Afghanistan, emphasized its importance for regional stability. He announced that Russian companies are prepared to cooperate with Afghanistan in diverse sectors, including mining, dam construction, electricity generation, and expanding railway networks, all aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and trade.
