Afghanistan issues 2 million passports in one year, daily distribution at ‘unprecedented level’

As many as 12,000 passports are currently distributed on a daily basis in Afghanistan, which is unprecedented, an Interior Ministry official said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference in Kabul, the Interior Ministry’s director of the passport department, Abdul Karim Hasib, said the process of distributing passports has returned to normal in 15 provinces.

He said that in the past year, around two million passports were distributed to citizens in the country.

Hasib also announced that three new passport branches will be inaugurated on Wednesday, July 17, in Kabul. The facilities are located in Darul Aman, Qala-e Zaman Khan and Tangi Tarakhel areas, and each will provide services for 2,000 applicants daily.

He also said that medical patients, traders, students seeking scholarships, Umrah pilgrims, truck drivers who cross borders, disabled people, pilots, citizens having foreign resident permits and visas, government officials and national sportspeople can receive emergency passports.
