Afghanistan National Cricket Team has beaten Ireland by seven wickets inside four days in Dehradun, Indian on Monday and claimed their first Test win.
Rahmat Shah, who made 76, and Ihsanullah Janat with an unbeaten 65 put on 139 for the second wicket as they chased down 147 to win the match played in Dehradun, India.
Ireland has also played two Tests.
Ireland would have fancied their chances when the day started, but Rahmat Shah and Ihsanullah dug in and kept churning out the runs at a fair clip to take their side over the line.
It was Afghanistan’s second Test outing after making their five-day debut last year when they lost to India inside two days in Bangalore.
“Happy. It’s a historic day for Afghanistan, for our team and our people,” Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan.
“We have been playing for a while, we have been playing first-class cricket, so we have that composure. The bowlers were very good, Rashid, Yamin. Now we’re going to South Africa for World Cup preparation. We will try out best to play good cricket,” he said.
Rahmat Shah wins the man of the match award after a brilliant performance.
Mohammad Nabi congratulated the victory of his team in Test match against Ireland to all Afghans. He says matches against Ireland were “very important” for the 2019 World Cup.
