Afghan, Uzbek mining ministers sign cooperation agreement

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum announced on Monday the signing of a cooperation agreement with Uzbekistan in the fields of hydrocarbons, iron and copper.

The ministry said in a statement that based on the agreement, surveys and exploratory studies of Afghan-Tajik oil and gas reserves, copper of Zabul’s Kandlan, and iron ore in Maidan Wardak and Bamiyan provinces will be carried out within the next two years.

During the signing of the agreement, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, and Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov were also present.
