Actual election turnout is much lower than what is announced by the Independent Election Commission, Abdullah Abdullah’s electoral team said on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference in Kabul, Fazl Ahmad Manawi of the Stability and Convergence team said that voter turnout figure would decrease significantly if non-biometric votes are invalidated.
He said that all candidates but one is insisting on invalidation of non-biometric votes, an IEC decision which he said was irreversible.
He said that the government should avoid meddling in IEC’s affairs.
IEC has announced voter turnout from September 28 election to be nearly 2.7 million.
Earlier, Abdullah, who is chief executive of the National Unity Government, claimed victory in the election.
Manawi reiterated that this election will have “only one winner” and there would no need for a run-off.
He said that processing of biometric votes was going slowly and urged the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan to provide technical assistance to IEC.
