A number of human rights activists and advocates of children’s rights in Afghanistan asked the government to immediately launch an inquiry into claims of sexual abuse and molestation in Logar schools.
A joint press release published by the CMST, Najiba Foundation, Gahwara, Charmaghz and Book Cottage institutions says that the government must immediately start the investigation of the students sexual abuse case in Logar province and the result must be shared with the public according to the predefined timeline.
The statement further adds that another extensive research should be launched in the education sector across the country in order to identify and unveil the extent of the phenomenon.
The government must take necessary security measurements for the children’s rights activists who disclosed abuses, the statement urged.
This comes as Mohammad Mosa Mahmoodi and Ehsanullah Hamidi, the two activists who disclosed the molestation in Logar schools, were recently released from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) captivity.
The UK based the Guardian first reported sexual abuse in Logar schools on November 13, saying a pedophile ring involved in the abuse of at least 546 boys from six schools has been discovered in Afghanistan’s Logar province.
The paper said that some of the victims of the abuse have since been murdered according to the campaigners who first discovered videos of abuse posted to a Facebook page.
Five families killed their sons after their faces were seen on videos posted to social media. Two other boys – a 13 and 15 year old – were killed last week, although the perpetrators are unknown.
