Acting Defense Minister Meets US Special Envoy in UAE

Acting Minister of Defense Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, who is visiting the UAE, met with the US special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West, in Abu Dhabi, the MoD said on Twitter.

In the meeting, Mawlawi Yaqoob Mujahid said that Afghanistan and its borders are secure and there are no threats from Afghan soil to any country, the MoD said.

According to the MoD, Mawlawi Yaqoob stressed that the world should respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty.

The US special envoy also met with the Afghan traders in the UAE.

Earlier, the US Department of State said that West would kick off a trip Japan, India and the UAE.

Speaking of his visit to India, West said on Twitter he met former HCNR chairman Abdullah Abdullah and discussed the urgent need for “national political dialogue among Afghans.”

West said he also met with Indian security and external affairs officials and discussed “shared interests in Afghanistan.”
