Chairman of High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, on Monday rejected a decree by President Ashraf Ghani on the appointment of members of the council.
Ghani issued a decree on Saturday appointing 46 members for the council.
Abdullah, however, said that establishing the council is his authority and it doesn’t require a presidential decree.
He said that the composition of High Council for National Reconciliation should be national, comprehensive and inclusive, adding consultations with political leaders and civil society have already been launched and are being finalized.
The council was created following a political deal between Ghani and Abdullah and it will have the final say and will ultimately decide on the points that the negotiating team takes up with the Taliban.
The list of members included also former president Hamid Karzai and Jamiat-i-Islami leader Salahuddin Rabbani, but they rejected the appointment.
