As many as 108 people have been killed and 48 injured as a result of floods over the past 10 days in 13 provinces, the Ministry of State for Natural Disasters said on Tuesday. At least 13 people have gone missing.
The floods inflicted human and material losses in Badakhshan, Takhar, Herat, Faryab, Badghis, Balkh, Jawzjan, Samangan, Baghlan, Sar-i-Pul, Kunar and Nuristan provinces, the statement said.
Over 3,000 homes, part of a mosque, two schools, 48 culverts, 224 kilometers of roads have been damaged and 9,000 livestock lost. About 8,892 homes were partially damaged.
According to the statement, cash, food and other assistance has been provided to 4,756 families in the flood-affected families.
Syed Abdullah Humayon Dehqan, head of the Natural Disaster Management Department in Badakhshan, acknowledged damage to more than 200 houses, agriculture land, culverts, canals and roads.
He said the process of removing debris from roads, surveying losses and supply of necessary aid was underway in Kisham, Sharh-i-Buzarg, Nasi, Yaftal and Darim districts.
Residents of the locality, however, complained of not receiving assistance for the past four days. They lamented losing their homes and belongings to the flooding and incessant rains.
