Fifteen onion storage facilities with a combined capacity of 250 tonnes have been inaugurated in the Baharak District of Badakhshan Province at a total cost of AFN 7.5 million.
Kikawus Taksari, head of the Publications Department at the Badakhshan Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said the facilities were built under the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agricultural Products Management Project.
He noted that the ministry covered 60 percent of the construction costs, amounting to AFN 4.5 million, while local farmers and residents contributed the remaining 40 percent.
According to Taksari, the facilities are designed to provide standard storage conditions for agricultural products, prevent quality deterioration, reduce post-harvest losses, and help regulate the timely supply of produce to markets.
Officials from the Badakhshan Department of Agriculture described the facilities as an important step toward strengthening agricultural infrastructure, improving post-harvest management, and addressing some of the challenges faced by farmers and orchard owners.
