World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that Afghan mothers and children are on the frontline of a rapidly worsening malnutrition crisis.
In a report released on Saturday, the organization said Afghanistan is on the verge of recording its highest levels of malnutrition, with nearly five million mothers and children in urgent need of emergency assistance.
According to the report, the crisis has been further intensified by economic pressures, regional tensions, the large-scale return of refugees, and a severe decline in humanitarian aid across Afghanistan.
The organization also warned that the consequences of conflict in the Middle East, including rising global oil prices and disruptions to transportation routes, have deprived thousands of people in Afghanistan of life-saving assistance.
This comes as the United Nations had previously warned that Afghanistan will continue to require urgent humanitarian assistance in 2026.
