In recent times, U.S. President Donald Trump has once again repeatedly used a language of insult, humiliation, and contempt toward Afghans and Afghanistan, even labeling our country as “the hell of the world.” Such statements are not only a clear affront to the honor and dignity of an entire nation, but also a continuation of the colonial and arrogant mindset that has always sought to trample on the history, identity, and sacrifices of nations. Trump, who himself has become a symbol of controversy, falsehoods, and moral failure in American political history, has no moral or historical right to speak about Afghans in such a degrading manner.
Afghanistan is an ancient country with thousands of years of history, a deep civilization, a rich culture, and a unique heritage. This land has witnessed the rise and fall of the world’s great empires, yet it has preserved its own identity, language, religion, and traditions. A nation that throughout history has made sacrifices in the face of invaders, defended its independence, and thwarted foreign conspiracies is never deserving of insult. If today Afghanistan is facing economic, political, and social challenges, these problems are not the result of Afghan ignorance or weakness, but rather the direct consequence of interference by the world’s major powers, especially the United States.
For nearly two decades, the United States and its allies occupied our country under the name of the war on terrorism. During this period, thousands of Afghans were killed, millions were displaced, institutions were destroyed, and the foundations of the country’s independence were severely damaged. The United States deeply interfered in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, imposed failed systems, paved the way for corruption, and ultimately left the country in a situation for which Afghans are still paying the price today. Now those same politicians, who are the primary architects of all these tragedies, blame and insult Afghans; this is not only injustice, but blatant hypocrisy.
Trump must accept that Afghanistan is a victim of America’s failed policies, not a “hell” for the world. Wherever the world has witnessed war, bloodshed, and instability, behind it lie the economic, military, and political interests of major powers. Afghans are not seekers of war; Afghans seek peace, a dignified life, and an independent future. But when their land is turned into a testing ground, it is only natural that the consequences will be painful.
Today, Afghans are more aware than ever before. They now clearly recognize who the near and distant countries of the world are, who claims friendship, and who exploits the name and emotions of Afghans for their own sinister objectives. The experiences of recent decades have proven that many foreign powers do not wish well for Afghanistan; rather, they want to use this land for their strategic interests. This is why no Afghan should any longer fall under the influence of empty slogans, false promises, and deceptive aid.
The most important lesson Afghans have learned from all these hardships is the value of national unity and cohesion. If we remain united, if we do not sacrifice ethnic, linguistic, and regional differences to foreign conspiracies, no external power will be able to play with our destiny. Politicians like Trump dare to insult only when they see us weak and divided. But a united nation is not worthy of anyone’s contempt.
Today, it is the responsibility of Afghans to defend the dignity of their country, to recognize their history and identity, and to convey to the world the message that Afghanistan is not called hell, but is the land of brave people, deep culture, and an unbreakable will. We must give our youth the awareness not to fall prey to foreign propaganda, to prioritize national interests, and to work collectively for the stability of the country.
In the end, Trump and other politicians like him will come and go, but Afghanistan will remain. This land has, throughout history, been the graveyard of arrogant rulers. No matter how many difficulties Afghans face, their sense of honor, dignity, and independence remains alive. Our response to insult is not anger, but unity, awareness, and national resolve. This is the very force that can thwart every malicious conspiracy against our country.
