Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, met with Gilles Bertrand, the newly appointed European Union Special Envoy for Afghanistan, to discuss strategies the EU can contribute positively to the country’s development.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting, Minister Muttaqi acknowledged the efforts of the former EU representative in facilitating humanitarian cooperation and highlighted significant projects launched by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan over the past four years. He emphasized the need for proactive measures from the EU to foster Afghanistan’s progress across various sectors.
Gilles Bertrand recognized the Islamic Emirate’s accomplishments in ensuring stability, national security, and economic development, as well as its efforts in accommodating millions of returning Afghan migrants. He reiterated the EU’s commitment to continue supporting Afghanistan.
Bertrand stressed the necessity for increased attention and collaboration from the EU, mainly in boosting the private sector and attracting investment from major foreign companies.
At the meeting’s conclusion, both sides agreed to maintain their dialogue and scheduled future meetings to further their cooperation.
