President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Sunday met with the Assistance US Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells and discussed the impacts of the US sanctions on Iran on Chabahar port.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the meeting was organized on Sunday afternoon in Gul Khana Palace.
The statement further added that the two sides discussed the affects the US sanctions may have on Chabahar port.
According ARG Palace, the Afghan government had earlier discussed the issue of US sanctions on Iran and its effects on Chabahar.
The statement by ARG Palace added that the results of the recent talks over Chabahar port would be shared with the people in the near future.
The Afghan government believes that the outcome of the talks would have a good economic impact for Afghanistan.
This comes as Mohammad Naser Mehri, a spokesman for the governor of Farah Province in West Afghanistan told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that the Farah border between Iran’s South Khorasan and Afghanistan’s Farah province has been opened after 50 days of closure.
Following the closure of Farah border on September 17, the region’s people held several demonstrations to protest the measure.
