New US Envoy for Afghanistan Starts Trip to Europe, Asia

The United States new special representative for Afghanistan, Tom West, has started his first trip to Europe and Asia to discuss Afghanistan with international partners.

West said on Monday that his first trip will be to Europe and Asia starting on Monday to discuss Afghanistan with US partners.

“I will be traveling to Europe and Asia starting today to discuss the way forward on Afghanistan with Allies and partners. The international community must act together to be effective,” he said.

Before his trip, West met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Blinken said West’s first stop will be Brussels.

“The first stop on his travel will be Brussels, where he will consult with Allies and partners,” Blinken said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Ambassador von Brandt, head of the EU delegation to Afghanistan, said he is looking forward to meeting West in Brussels over Afghanistan.
